by Folkert

Currently the IFA electronics fair is being held in Berlin and lots of manufacturers are introducing new products. Samsung announced its Galaxy Tab 7.7 yesterday, a tablet equipped with a Super AMOLED Plus screen. According to Samsung it’s one of the most portable tablets in the world.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 has, as the name suggests, a 7.7 inch screen and a weight of just 335 gram. The tablet is smaller than the other tables in the Galaxy Tab range and it’s only 7,9mm thick. Samsung’s new tablet is equipped with a 1.4 Ghz dual-core processor and a Super AMOLED Plus screen, just like the Samsung’s flagship phone, the Samsung Galaxy S2.

The Super AMOLED Plus is probably the biggest improvement and this technology will provide users with a rich, brilliant viewing experience. The resolution of the screen is 1280*800 pixels. Other specs for the Galaxy Tab 7.7 include WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, a 3 megapixel LED camera on the back and a 2 megapixel camera on the front. The tablet has 1 GB internal memory and up to 32 GB can be added with a microSD card. It should be able to play full HD (1080p) movies without problems and the tablet’s battery should last for at least 10 hours of intensive use.

The Galaxy Tab 7.7 will run on Android Honeycomb 3.2 in combination with Samsung’s own TouchWiz interface. The TouchWiz interface will allow users to customize their lock screen and it grants them access to several Samsung services, such as the Readers Hub. The Readers Hub offers more than 2.3 million books, 2.000 newspapers and 3.000 magazines.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 can also be used as a remote control for other devices using the Universal Remote Control Function. The Galaxy tab 7.7 is expected to be released in the fourth quarter of this year.

by Folkert

Last week some details of the new Sony Reader PRS-T1 already leaked out thanks to bol.com, but yesterday Sony officially launched its new Reader Wi-Fi (or PRS-T1). The biggest improvement is the WiFi adapter that allows users to set up a WiFi connection.

The design of the new eReader is pretty similar to the previous eReaders in the series and other devices in the Sony Xperia range. The biggest change in design is that the metal casing has been replaced by a plastic casing. The weight of the device has been greatly reduces because of this and Sony claims it’s the lightest 6 inch eReader in the world with just 168g.

The new Sony Reader will be using Android OS and the device is equipped with Pearl E-ink display with a resolution of 600*800 pixels. Sony chose for an infrared multi-touch touch screen that enables users to use gestures, such as pinch-to-zoom. The new eReader has an internal memory of 2GB, a 3,5mm audio jack and a microSD-card can be used to expand the memory. The battery of the device lets you read for about 1 month (3 weeks with WiFi enabled) or 14,000 page changes.

The Sony Reader Wi-Fi will have 10 different dictionaries and text can immediately be entered into Google and Wikipedia. It’s also the first eReader to allow you to borrow books from public libraries wirelessly and on top of that it comes with a simple browser which allows users to download PDF and ePub files.

The Sony Reader PRS-T1 will be released in October and the price will be around $150.
